Weeks 4 & 5

WEEK FOUR

This week, the storyboard were finalised and a rough model of the dragonfly has been created. Heather painted a rough frame for the “eye scene” to show how it looked.

WEEK FIVE

We plan to shoot as soon as possible, so Kris produced a shot list and carried out an online risk assessment. So that he can rent out equipment from the uni. The mid-semester presentations are due in a week, so we spent the majority of this week working on that, making sure everyone is clear on what the plan is. Basil carried out animation tests for the dragonfly whilst Heather began to work on the first proper frame from the “eye scene”.

work so far..

This is just a quick post to show some of the work that has been contributed to the project so far, this includes some reference material (photographs) for the opening oil animation scene using Heather's eye, completion of the first frame of oil animation, and some preliminary storyboards which need final edits and redrafts before the presentation next week. Heather is now working on completing the oil animation sequence, Kris has completed a shot list and can begin filming the raw footage soon. Basil and Chris Wilson are currently working on the 3D model and animation for the sequence in the winter/peace gardens. Once the raw footage is filmed Kris can begin editing the film and compositing effects and animation drafted by Chris Gray, Heather and the 3D work from Basil and Wilson. James will also be specifically helping with compositing of the 3D model and animation into the footage.

Update, current week (18/02)

A quick update, with a longer one later on in the day. With storyboards of the live action and animated pieces completed, concept art for the dragonfly and the others done, and just needs to posted up here, we have one man (james) currently working on the moving text which will be prominent throughout, another (wilson) working on modelling the dragonfly. We have Kris working on script, as well as well as Heather on some of the oil paintings, which we'll be using animated for the very beginning

Week 3

This week the first draft of the storyboards was completed. The group now had a shared vision of what the final project will look like. Basil has spoken to a friend of his who has agreed to compose music for our project if need be. Whilst he hasn't spoken to him about it, Kris also has a friend who might be interested in recording music for our project.
Wilson has research and drawn up concept art for a CGI dragonfly which will feature prominently in the video.

Weeks 1 & 2

WEEK ONE

On week one we were set the assignment brief and the first group meeting took place. Because of the nature of the assignment, we decided that the best course of action would be to make a short video. We discussed various different ideas in depth looking at the pros and cons of each.

WEEK TWO

We eventually settled on the idea of producing a short 3-4 minute video on the culture of Sheffield. There are six group members, each with different talents. Kris's strength is film making. Myself and Heather are skilled in 2D animation. Finally, Wilson, Basil and James are very good at 3D modelling and animation. We decided to make use of everyone's talents by includes scenes of 2D and 3D animation into our video. I researched locations in Sheffield which would be suitable to include in the video.

In addition, the blog was set up this week to document our progress.
